It marks the return of one of Royal Enfield’s most loved classic motorcycles. Hailing from a time when all that mattered was that the California sun was out and the surf was up, the new Interceptor retains every bit of charm that made it a legend. Here is the story of its revival.
Along with the classically-styled variants that were inspired by its iconic namesake from the 1960s, this new version of the Interceptor 650 moves the styling forward by a decade, into the 1970s. Built with a perfect balance of style and performance, it’s a modern classic that retains the essence and appearance of an authentic British roadster, but with a splash of sun-soaked California.

The Interceptor 650 is powered by Royal Enfield’s legendary parallel twin cylinder engine, backed with an air/oil-cooled parallel twin configuration. The 648cc engine offers 47 horsepower at 7150 RPM and a maximum of 52 Nm of torque at 5250 RPM. A smooth throttle response throughout the rev range ensures sufficient power to make light work of the city traffic or cruise effortlessly along the open roads.

The Interceptor 650’s wide handlebar, low seat height and confidence-inspiring riding position have been engineered for comfort with a gentle sports bias. Together, they help the rider make the most of the agile chassis and stay connected to the machine. With a 24-degree rake angle and 106 mm of trail, the motorcycle feels nimble in the city, planted on the highways and confident on the twisties.

Beauty is often overlooked in chassis design. But this new frame blends the authentic form of period classics with the superb handling and ride of modern engineering. The result is a chassis that’s nimble and precise.

Every part on the Interceptor 650 is crafted to bring the rider a distinct timeless appeal of the 60’s design. The narrow teardrop tank is donned with a classic badge and a Monza styled fuel cap.
